#7: Crab Legs
You'd think in this land of coastal living, there would be crab legs galore! The only crabs I've seen for sale are whole mud crabs and soft shelled crabs. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.
There's definitely no shortage of fish and prawns, you can even get fresh calamari... Prawns, by the way, meaning shrimp. I've never been a big fan of shrimp, but the air was definitely let out of my tires when I discovered that no one, and I mean, no one, says "Let's throw some shrimp on the barby!" Barby is definitely universally used, but not shrimp. I have not heard a single person utter this word. It's all prawn, Mate. No shrimps... and no crab legs...
Before December 2009, I lived my entire life in the Midwest of the United States. My biggest move to date is to the Land Down Under... the Gold Coast of Australia. I want to share my day to experiences as well as some of the shocking - whether good or bad - differences I encounter along the way.
Where did the title come from?
The title is my nerdy attempt to spoof the title of my favorite song referencing Australia. Men at Work released a song called "Down Under" in the 1980's and I never forgot it. (And I'd wager if you played this song in a crowded bar you wouldn't find many who did forget) So I thought... what would I be called Down Under? I guess I'd' be from the land "Up Over"... so yeah. That's it.
